Jersey City Man arrested after hiding handgun in a parked vehicle wheel well

23-year-old William M. Powers was arrested on February 7, for hiding a gun on parked vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to Rose Avenue, a well-known crime area that has received numerous complaints for narcotics trafficking, aggravated assaults , shootings, etc. Once in the area they observed a black male wearing a black skull cap, black bubble jacket, grey sweatpants and black boots (later known as William Powers) exiting Jumbo Fried Chicken on Rose avenue walking towards a Grey Ford Explorer that was parked in front of the fast food place. The suspect was observed crouching down next to the front wheel passenger wheel for about a minute and then continued walking South on Rose Avenue.

According to the Police report, Officers are trained to look out for objects stashed on front wheel wells since they are known to be used as storage for firearms and / or CDS.  Mr. Powers was immediately stopped for further investigation.

Once officers approached the parked vehicle, they recovered a Silver.380 automatic handgun.

For this reason, Mr. Powers was charged for Possession of a weapon, in addition Mr Powers was found to have 2 open warrants out of Jersey City.
