Jersey City man arrested in connection with Homicide on Clinton Avenue in Jersey City

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released the following information:

As a result of an ongoing investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department, on Monday, July 25, 2016, Justin Garcia, age 25, of Jersey City was arrested in connection with the July 21, 2016, fatal shooting on Clinton Avenue in Jersey City.

Garcia has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3a(1)(2); Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-5b(1); Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-4a(1); and Certain Persons not to possess a Firearm in violation of N.J.S. 2C:39-7a.

Bail has been set at $750,000 cash only.

On July 21, 2016, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Jersey City Police were dispatched to Clinton Avenue in Jersey City on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police found a male victim, Javon Murray, age 28, of Jersey City, with a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:50 a.m.

The manner of death in the fatal shooting was later determined by a medical examiner to be homicide and the cause of death was ruled a gunshot wound to the victim’s neck.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6).
