Jersey City Teens Taught How to Budget Expenses

The Boys and Girls Club in Jersey City collaborated with the Charles Schwab Foundation for the second consecutive year in order to teach an estimated 40 Jersey City students how to budget their money. The program runs for about 90 minutes and gives each child a hypothetical profession alongside a hypothetical living situation, which they then have to analyze in order to create a budget that works for them. The students learn about real life finance and are encouraged to have a savings account, investments, and consider real life priorities within their budget. The financial literacy program strives to teach the youth about finance in a way that is applicable to their lives and their futures.
