On Thursday, June 2, 2016, North Bergen Police was notified of a reported injured female in the area of 83rd Street and Newkirk Ave. Officers responded to the scene and found an injured female bleeding from her face. Witnesses told Police on scene the suspect fled in a burgundy Hyundai. The victim was transported to Palisades General Hospital for her injuries.
The victim states she was a passenger in the car when the driver began to assault her by pulling her hair. The victim states the suspect struck her in the face with a flat headed screw driver causing her to bleed. The wound was located under her eye in the cheek area. The injury did not penetrate her cheek. The victim states the incident initially occurred somewhere on 8800 block of 4th Avenue. They got back in the vehicle and began to drive again until they stopped at 83rd and Newkirk Avenue.
During the course of the investigation Officers on scene were attempting to locate a male passenger that fled the area after the incident. Witnesses to the incident then told police that the male walking on 83rd Street was in the vehicle during the incident. Officers approached the male and began to speak to him. The male later identified as Gary Nash had provided a false name and date of birth to the Police Officers on scene. Mr. Nash had eventually admitted his age which was different than his given date of birth. He also states he did not know any of the females involved in this incident. Officers had placed Mr. Nash under arrest and charged him with obstructing and Hindering Apprehension.
While being processed Mr. Nash was fingerprinted to verify his identity. The information returned to Gary Nash out of Newark New Jersey. Mr. Nash was ran for warrants and returned an NCIC warrant for Escape from Northern State Prison. Mr. Nash was held at Hudson County Jail.
A second witness that was in the vehicle had provided a false name to police and was later charged with False Report to Police and Hindering Apprehension. She was identified as Victoria Turner age 24 from Newark New Jersey. She also had FTA warrants out of Newark and Edison. She was transported to the Hudson County Jail.
At this time the investigation is ongoing. The suspect has not been arrested or located.
