Passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas are breathing a sigh of relief today after surviving a massive storm in the Atlantic Ocean.

The cruise ship returned to Bayonne’s Cape Liberty Wednesday night after a trip that was anything but relaxing.

More than 4,500 passengers and 1,600 crew members endured 125-mile-per-hour winds, with some saying the ship was slanted at a 25-degree at one point. Many passengers recorded the events, saying they feared for their lives.

A major storm was predicted when the ship left Bayonne Saturday on a seven-day cruise to the Bahamas. But the company says it turned out to be much worse than predicted.

The company has apologized to passengers and is refunding their money.  They also received a certificate toward a future cruise.  However the cruise ship is standing behind the captain, adding that changes are being made to its storm avoidance policies.

The ship is said to have suffered superficial damage to some public areas and cabins.  Several minor injuries were also reported.
