Turnpike Construction Update


Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and its contractors have provided new information to the City of Bayonne about the reconstruction of the area around the 14A toll plaza.

In the toll plaza, work continues on new east toll lane construction.  Renovations are progressing at the existing toll plaza building.  Nighttime single toll lane closures will be implemented to install canopy lighting.  Closure will occur Monday to Friday the Week of February 8, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. 

Pile driving work is starting for the new bridge abutment in the vicinity of 53rd Street. 

Deep foundation work is moving ahead at 51st Street.  New bridge column and pier cap construction work will continue. 

For the ramps between the toll plaza and the Hudson County Extension, widening work continues.  Work is also proceeding on a variable message sign at the base of the Newark Bay bridge.  Local street level work is proceeding at Avenue C, Garfield Avenue, and Kennedy Boulevard bridge abutments and piers.  Some single lane daytime closures will be required.

Deep sewer relocation work continues at the Pulaski Street jughandle.  Drainage and other utility work are going forward on Pulaski Street near Route 440.  Temporary traffic signal installation will continue this week.  The signals are expected to be activated in mid-February. 

In the ramp area east of Route 440, ground improvements are taking place, including the installation of wick drains and concrete columns. Work continues on relocating a sixty-six inch outfall sewer.
