West New York youth academy provides true life view of police

It was established in 2014 and now the West New York Police Youth Academy is going strong, teaching the town’s kids the skills they need to pursue a career in the public sector, including police, military, fire department, emergency medical services, S.W.A.T team and sheriff’s department.

The youth academy also provides the cadets with proper tools to be able to build on leadership skills, self confidence and pride.

According to Mayor Felix Roque, where you see a lot of violence around the country and people hating the police, in West New York it’s all about loving their police department and training the next generation.

“I forsee hopefully building a military academy here because leadership is always something jobs are looking for and it builds team and character in these young men and women,” the mayor says.
