17-Year Old Charged In Fatal Jersey City Shooting Last Friday

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that a 17-year old male has been charged by the Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit in connection to last Friday’s fatal shooting in Jersey City.

The juvenile is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.  He was arrested on Monday, January 6, 2025, at a residence on Garfield Avenue in Jersey City.  Since juvenile matters are confidential, no additional information can be released at this time.

According to a press release from the County Prosecutor’s Office, “Shortly before 8:30 p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2025, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting in the area of Lembeck Avenue and Old Bergen Road.  A male victim – later identified as Rahmiere Morris, 20, of Jersey City – was located with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:35 p.m.”

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.

The above charges are merely accusations and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
