Medhat M. Saad Male (27) was taken into custody at 0051 hours from the area of West 30th Street. Officers responded to the area on a report of a male, later identified as Saad, checking door handles of parked vehicles. Officers located Saad in the area of West 30th Street, just west of Avenue C. While investigating, officers observed a black object protruding from Saad’s jacket pocket which was determined to be an expandable baton, similar to one police officers carry. A further check of Saad’s person for additional weapons led to the recovery of heroin. Officers placed Saad under arrest for the weapon and CDS offenses and responded to the caller to continue their investigation. The caller advised the officers that she had witnessed Saad checking door handles of several parked vehicles in the area. The officers responded to the first identified parked vehicle and were able to follow a trail of fresh shoeprints in the snow leading from vehicle to vehicle, as depicted by the caller. The shoeprints led to a total of 10 vehicles and ended where Saad was stopped and detained by officers. All vehicles appeared to be locked and secured with no signs of entry being made. A search incident to Saad’s arrest led to the recovery of an additional amount of heroin, various loose prescription medications (not prescribed to Saad), marijuana, CDS paraphernalia, and various burglar tools.
