Six Children Die in NJ Health Center due to Severe Viral Outbreak

Six children are dead and a dozen others very sick due to “severe viral outbreak at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Passaic County, according to a report on PIX 11 News.

The Department of Health has confirmed 18 cases of adenovirus at this center.

Adenoviruses are a group of viruses that can infect the membranes (tissue linings) of the respiratory tract, eyes, intestines, urinary tract, and nervous system. They account for about 10% of fever-related illnesses and acute respiratory infections in kids and are a frequent cause of diarrhea. according to kidshealth.org.

The facility was visited by the department of Health last sunday and it was found “minor” hand washing deficiencies, the report says.

The Center will not be receiving any new patients.
