62-year-old Woman Struck in Braddock Park Has Died

JERSEY CITY, NJ –  Statement from Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari regarding a pedestrian struck in James J. Braddock Park on October 2, 2018.

“The woman who was struck by a car on October 2, 2018 on Blvd East inside James J. Braddock Park has died.

Yeoun O. An, 62, of North Bergen passed away at 1pm on October 29, 2018 at the Jersey City Medical Center. She was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center on October, 2 with critical injuries, she never regained consciousness due to severe head trauma.

The crash occurred on Blvd East at the Entrance to the Bruin Stadium Parking lot, inside James J. Braddock Park. Ms. An was crossing the street when she was struck. Sheriff’s Crash Investigators determined that she was in the crosswalk when she was hit.

The driver of the car that struck her, Melone Smith, 61, of Paterson, remained at the scene and cooperated with the Sheriff’s Investigation and was issued summonses for Speeding and Failing to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.

The accident is no longer under investigation.”
