Part of Continuing Effort to Slow the Spread of COVID-19, Follow Social Distance Guidelines

WEST NEW YORK, N.J. Mayor Gabriel Rodriguez has signed an Executive Order instituting a Town Wide Curfew effective Monday, March 16, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. The policy will mandate that residents remain in their homes between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., except for serious obligations such as reporting or returning to work.

Additionally, the curfew applies to all restaurants and bars in the Town of West New York and mandates that all patrons must be gone from the establishment by 10:00 p.m. sharp. This curfew will be in effect until further notice.

“We are taking an aggressive, proactive stance with this curfew policy in an effort to keep our community safe during this public health crisis,” said Mayor Rodriguez. “According to public health experts, social distancing is the only effective way to slow the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic and West New York will do what is necessary to meet those guidelines.”

The Town has further ordered all daycare centers in West New York to be closed from Tuesday, March 17th through at least Friday, March 27th.

Except for urgent matters, residents are discouraged from visiting the West New York Municipal Building. Residents are encouraged to reach town hall by calling (201) 295.5200 and make an appointment if needed.

Residents can stay informed by keeping up with the latest updates via the Town of West New York website and social media platforms.

Town officials continue to strongly recommend practicing social distancing (not congregating in large groups, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distances of approximately six feet from others), washing and sanitizing hands frequently, and working from home if able.

The State Department of Health has set up a 24-Hour Hotline for the community; that number is 1.800.222.1222. The State Department of Health has also developed a dedicated link to their website as follows: http://www.nj.gov/health/cd/topics/covid2019_resources.shtml.

For further questions, residents are further encouraged to call the Town’s Department of Health at 201.295.5070 or visit the Town’s website at http://www.westnewyorknj.org/.

  1. How can i stay 6ft away from someone if i have them right next to me? I Work in a home health agency with more than 20 employees literally right next to each each other because the space is so small not including the home health aide coming in and out who work with the elderly or ill, we are all terrified because everyday we go to work we dont know anyones whereabouts and arent guaranteed whether they’ve been exposed due to large gatherings, on top of that almost everyone at the office is sick coughing all over the place and refuse to stay home because they cannot afford to take the day off, I myself live with fear Everyday I go to work because I dont want to be exposed to this disease. I ask for the town to please take us in consideration and have us work from home since it is doable. Id like to stay anonymous because i do not want to lose my job. Please help us, and stop the spreading this will only get worse if employees are forced to go to work. This town is very small yet so many people live here, and that itself can be extremely dangerous.
