Governor Murphy announced today that his administration is establishing the COVID-19 Short-Term Rental Assistance Program through the NJDCA.  Senator Stack sponsored legislation (S2332) allocating $100m to rental assistance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Senator considers this a action taken by the Murphy Administration a major step in avoiding mass evictions and foreclosures for those residents impacted by the pandemic.  Senator Stack issued the following statement regarding the program:

“I would like to applaud Governor Murphy’s foresight in establishing the COVID-19 Short-Term Rental Assistance Program.  This is something that I have worked on since the pandemic started and have staunchly advocated for this program to be formed.  Housing security is a critical public health issue and to leave residents without assistance would just add insult to injury.  Likewise, landlords that are not able to collect rent from tenants may be unable to pay their mortgages.  We are living in unprecedented times where tenants should not have to choose between feeding their families or paying their rent.”
