Despite Lack of HCDO Support, It Appears Very Likely Assemblyman Chiaravalloti With Seek Re-Election Off Line During June Primary

it’s been several weeks since Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis announced he was not going to support Democratic Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D – District 31) for re-election during the June Primary election.  Davis and the Hudson County Democratic Organization chose to throw support behind longshoreman and crane operator at the Bayonne Container Terminal, William B. Sampson IV.

Despite being dumped from the HCDO line, it appears more and more likely that Chiaravalloti will choose to run in the Primary in an effort to retain the Assembly seat he has held since 2016.  Last night, he sent out an email to Democratic constituents in the 31st Legislative District, encompassing Bayonne and a portion of Jersey City, asking them to sign his petition to get his name on the June Primary ballot.

The email, in part states, “It would be an honor to continue representing the 31st legislative district – but I can’t do it without you,” Chiaravalloti said.

In order to appear on the June 8th Democratic Primary ballot, the Assemblyman will need to hand in 100 valid petitions to the Hudson County Clerk’s office by 4 o’clock on April 5.
