UPDATE – Due to low water pressure and no water pressure in some municipal buildings caused by the water main break, all municipal buildings are closed. Hoboken Fire Department buildings and the Hoboken Police Department along with other essential services remain open and operational.
All recreation programs are cancelled.
Repair crews remain on site and are working to isolate the break and restore pressure.
Although there is low to no water pressure in certain areas, Veolia has communicated to the City that the water is safe to drink. Veolia Water NJ is responding to a water main break on Observer Highway and Madison Street in Hoboken which was caused by private construction crews who hit the main. Veolia, the Hoboken Office of Emergency Management, Hoboken Police Department, and Hoboken Fire Department are on the scene. Water pressure may be low throughout the City and will be restored once the main is isolated.
Newark Street will be closed from Grove Street to Henderson. Observer Highway will be closed at Henderson, with all traffic directed South. All vehicles coming into Hoboken via Jersey Avenue will be re-routed south on Grove Street.
Hoboken Police Officers are on scene to help direct traffic. The Office of Emergency Management advises drivers entering or exiting the City to do so from northern routes.
