On June 30, Union City pulled out all the stops to host an early Independence Day celebration, expecting thousands to join in the festivities. Mayor Brian P. Stack and Police Chief Anthony Facchini offered insights on the significance of the event and its impact on the community.

In an exclusive interview, Mayor Stack shared the rationale behind the early celebration. He noted, “We always have it right before the holiday because we know that people may go away or have other plans with their family.” Mayor Stack emphasized the importance of these events in fostering community spirit and interaction with local authorities.

Discussing the importance of community unity, Mayor Stack said, “We do this to bring the community together. We try to pick a different neighborhood each year and for each event…just to bring everybody a little closer together.” His efforts extend beyond these celebrations, with initiatives like moving his office and conducting police-community meetings across various neighborhoods in the city.

Regarding potential challenges while organizing such events, Mayor Stack was appreciative of the volunteer support, saying, “Thanks to all the volunteers that come forward, it makes it a great event for everyone.” He highlighted future city initiatives, including community meetings, concerts, and summer events, all designed to engage the public and promote neighborhood interaction.

Mayor Stack encapsulated the essence of Independence Day, saying, “We should celebrate the Democracy that we live in, the free country that we live in, and all of those that have fought for us in this country to keep us free.”

Police Chief Anthony Facchini also shared his views, highlighting the success of their “See something, Say something” campaign. “The more people that see what we do on a daily basis, the more people buy in and the more assets we have on the street to prevent crime,” he said.

While thousands were expected to join the celebration, Facchini assured attendees that over 50 officers were present to ensure safety during this “family event.”

As the night unfolded, Union City celebrated not only the nation’s independence but also the strength of its community, underlined by the efforts of figures like Mayor Stack and Chief Facchini. The celebration was a testament to the city’s unity and the camaraderie that defines Union City.
