Two days before the start of the Republican National Convention, presumptive GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump has survived an apparent assassination attempt on Saturday.
According to the Associated Press, the former President’s campaign staff said in a statement that Trump “was fine” after he was rushed off of a stage during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after apparent gunshots were heard ringing through the crowd.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said the former President “is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. President Trump thanks local law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act.”
Trump was discussing a border crossing chart when bangs could be heard in the crowd. The Associated Press reported that Trump reached for his neck with his right hand. Blood appeared to be on his face.
Trump’s Secret Service security detail rushed the stage as he ducked behind the riser. As Trump was being attended to, he got back up, pumping his fist as the crowd cheered.
He was then taken to a local medical facility for evaluation.
