The West New York Board of Education will vote at its August meeting to remove the Senator’s name, with the school reportedly reverting back to School Number 3. The school is located on 55th Street, between Jefferson and Jackson Streets.
The school was officially renamed the Robert Menendez Elementary School in 2013 before the Senator’s legal troubles surfaced.
Senator Menendez was convicted of accepting bribes in the form of gold bars, cash and gifts in exchange for favors for three businessmen while acting as a foreign agent for the government of Egypt.
Despite maintaining his innocence and saying he will appeal his conviction, Menendez, who was under intense pressure to step down, will resign from the United States Senate on August 20th.
His sentencing is set for October 29th.
