The Bayonne Police Department has announced the arrests of five Bayonne teenagers, including four juveniles, for the October 22nd aggravated assault of a juvenile male.

According to Sergeant William Dundas, 18-year old Educarray McGhie and four other male juveniles, aged 15, 16, 16 and 17, have been charged with aggravated assault, endangering an injured victim and rioting at 2:54 pm at 24th Street and Avenue A near the William Shermin Midtown Community School on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

According to Sergeant Dundas, all five suspects were taken into custody by Bayonne Police Detectives between October 22nd and October 24th.

During the assault, Dundas says the five suspects “knocked the victim to the ground and repeatedly kicked and stomped on his body and head.  A bystander came to the aid of the victim by shielding him with her body, thereby stopping the attack. During the altercation, the victim was rendered unconscious and sustained moderate injury.”

NJ.com is reporting that the bystander who shielded the victims with her body was 56-year-old, special education teacher Cathy Hurley, who is employed at the Midtown Community School.

The victim was treated and released a short time after the assault.  The actors fled the area on foot.

McGhie was transported to Hudson County Correctional Facility after being processed.  The four juveniles were remanded to multiple Youth Correctional Facilities within the State of New Jersey.
