Union City High School’s number one seeded football team has added incentive heading into Friday night’s NJSIAA, Section 2, Group 5 championship game.  They take on Passaic Tech, a squad they have lost to five straight times dating back to 2017.

Union City won the state sectional championship game against Phillipsburg last year, but that game was on the road.  Friday night will be a home contest at Roosevelt Stadium, and the place is expected to be jam packed, with the crowd cheering on the Soaring Eagles, as they look to capture a second straight title.

Head coach Wilber Valdez says the team has bought into the coaching staff’s philosophy all season long.  Following an early season loss, the Soaring Eagles have destroyed their opponents, running their way to huge point victories behind senior running back Mark Boyd, one of New Jersey’s top rushers.  In their state sectional semi-final playoff game, Union City did not throw the ball one time, but Coach Valdez says if they need to pass, they have a quarterback who can do so.

Friday night’s championship game against Passaic Tech kicks off at 7 pm.  It is going to be a noisy, wild scene.
