Veolia has completed emergency repairs to a 36-inch water main near the intersection of Jersey Avenue and 18th Street in Jersey City. The main, which is part of the interconnection that feeds Hoboken’s water system, will now be used to help restore full water pressure to residents overnight.

Veolia is taking the proactive measure of flushing fire hydrants to help stabilize pressure within the water system. If you see water coming out of hydrants in Hoboken tonight; be assured, this is intentional. Despite these efforts, there may still be fluctuations in water pressure, which can cause future water main breaks as the system stabilizes.

Residents may experience discoloration and possible sediment due to pressure fluctuations. Residents should flush tap water on cold until it runs clear before boiling.

Once the water pressure to the City’s system is fully restored, Veolia will begin collecting water samples for testing in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Results of these tests take a minimum of 24 hours. Then, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will review the results and determine if the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted.

The City of Hoboken will remain under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice.
