Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla has announced the activation of a new, state-of-the-art security camera system in Church Square Park. The system features up to 30 AI-powered cameras, offering comprehensive surveillance with real-time live feed capabilities.
The Hoboken Police Department will monitor the cameras, enhancing public safety with faster response times and providing valuable investigative tools.
In a statement, the Mayor said “The safety of our residents and visitors is our top priority, and these new security cameras will provide the Hoboken Police Department with an important tool to help deter and investigate criminal activity. By enhancing security in our parks and integrating advanced technology, we are creating an even safer environment for everyone to enjoy our public spaces with greater peace of mind.”
Hoboken Police Chief Steven Aguiar added, “These cameras, which provide additional eyes on Church Square Park, and eventually on other public spaces, give HPD yet another tool to enhance our ability to protect the residents of Hoboken. I’d like to express my thanks to the Mayor and City administration for their continued commitment to supporting HPD with vital technology and resources.”
Paid for primarily through Hudson County’s Open Space Trust Fund, the new camera system is a key part of a larger public safety improvement plan for Church Square Park, that also includes temporary and permanent lighting upgrades to increase visibility.
