Bayonne officials recently joined with members of the Peninsula City’s Ukrainian community for a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall. The event marked the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union.
Speakers at the ceremony included Ukrainian-American activist Luba Berezny, Rutgers University student Daryna Komisar, and Bayonne Council Member At-Large Loyad Booker.
The speakers referred to the devastating effects of the current war in Ukraine, which was invaded by Russia, most recently, in 2022.
