Hoboken’s Division of Cultural Affairs has announced that registration for youth and young adult art programs begins today, Wednesday, December 17th, for the winter season.
In a statement Mayor Ravi Bhalla said, “Our winter art programming is a reminder that creativity thrives in Hoboken no matter the season. These programs help bring joy, community, and light to our city during the cold winter months and I thank the Division of Cultural Affairs for offering residents this critical opportunity to learn and connect through the arts.”
The winter programming, scheduled to begin in January, is designed to nurture creativity and artistic expression. Offerings this winter include the following:

My Mini Museum for children in kindergarten through second grade. This seven-week program is an art exploration club in which students will use artists as inspiration to create their own artwork.

Artist-Inspired/Kid-Created for youth in third through sixth grade. This seven-week program introduces students to different artists to help them find inspiration to create their own work.

Art in the Park for toddlers 1 through 4 years old. This six-week indoor program includes art, crafts, story time, and brief outdoor play (weather permitting).

Fashion and Upcycling for fifth through 12th graders. Participants will learn how to create their own designs using upcycled clothing.

Fashion and Upcycling for Special Needs students between the ages of 10 and 24. Participants will learn how to create their own designs using upcycled clothing.

Freestyle Dance for those in second through eighth grades. Dancers will explore dance styles such as salsa and hip hop while developing rhythm, coordination, and individual expression.

Freestyle Dance for students with Special Needs in third through 12th grades. Dancers will explore dance styles such as salsa and hip hop while developing rhythm, coordination, and social connection.

Creative Drama for prekindergarten and kindergarten students. Children will enhance their inherent dramatic play with a focus on developing a sense of confidence, communication, teamwork, and fun.

Theater Games for those in first through eighth grades. The program will offer youth an introduction to improvisation and theater games to build confidence, communication, and teamwork.

Sewing and Design for students in first through 12th grades. The class will offer an introduction to the basics of hand and machine sewing and design.

One-on-One Music Lessons for students with Special Needs for those between the ages of six and 22. One-on-one music lessons at The Drum Den, 333 Newark St.

Art Lessons for Special Needs students between the ages of 14 to 22. This six-week program at Urban Arts, 720 Monroe St., offers group art classes to youth and young adults with special needs.
Registration for all programs will open at 6 p.m. on RecDesk. Class sizes are limited, and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs that do not have the minimum number of participants will be cancelled.
Families that qualify for free and reduced lunch are eligible to register for the classes free of charge. All program fees are available on RecDesk.
