It was opening day for the Weehawken Recreation Department’s T-Ball, Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth baseball and softball leagues at Weehawken Stadium on Saturday morning.

Nearly 500 Weehawken youngsters are signed up to play ball this spring, with T-Ball registration seeing the largest growth.

The morning began with a parade of all the teams down the steps from Park Avenue onto the field.  That was followed by a brief ceremony led by Mayor Richard Turner, which was followed by the opening pitch thrown by Councilman David Curtis to ardent Mets fan, Councilman Robert Sosa, who was batting.  Unlike last year, Councilman Sosa swung and hit the ball to the right side of the infield.  Maybe his New York Mets should sign him!!!

It’s going to be a fun and exciting spring for all of the boys and girls participating.

Play Ball!!!!!
