Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello has announced that members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested the driver of a vehicle on Friday, April 30, 2026 which was involved in a serious crash that occurred in Jersey City on January 14, 2025.
36-year old Antony Pena-Ceri of Hackensack is charged with one count of assault by auto. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance.
According to Prosecutor Mello, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, just after 4 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision on Routes 1&9 between Duncan Avenue and Communipaw Avenue. Responding officers located two vehicles with extensive damage on the southbound side of the roadway. The driver of a black Honda Accord, a 21-year-old Jersey City male, was treated for minor injuries. The second vehicle, a white Honda Accord, was driven by the defendant and occupied by one passenger, both of whom were treated for serious injuries. The investigation determined the defendant was operating at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.
The above charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
