Giselle Bellas Brings Bilingual Dystopian ‘Miss Bellas’ to Jersey City

Giselle Bellas will present her 75-minute original music-theater work “Miss Bellas” at the Jersey City Theater Center at White Eagle Hall on Saturday, October 3.

The Cuban-American singer, songwriter, and playwright wrote the piece. It marks her return to White Eagle Hall after her earlier show “Las Hermanas,” which featured a 12-piece band.

Themes and Style

The work explores fame, class division, cultural erasure, and moral responsibility. It is described as Lady Gaga meets Hunger Games set in a dystopian but unsettlingly familiar world.

Plot Summary

The story is set inside “the Wall,” an aristocratic haven in a dystopian society. It follows a global icon at the height of her fame who presides over an annual “Give Back” gala.

When unrest rises beyond the Wall, her loyal assistant is pressured to turn her into a symbol of revolution. This forces a confrontation over loyalty, identity, and survival.

The production includes original music, a bilingual English/Spanish script, and dynamic projection design that shifts the stage between a glamorous performance space and a reflection of the world beyond the Wall.

Additional Appearances

The performance will include surprise appearances by Jersey City artists Florianna Heun and Marisol Medina.

“Miss Bellas examines what happens when success distances us from responsibility,” says Giselle Bellas. “It asks whether transformation is still possible once power becomes identity and whether performance can ever replace truth.”
