Adam Parkinson was honored for his tenure as the President of the West New York Board of Education on Wednesday.  Parkinson, and Trustee Marielka Diaz, both attended their final school board meetings.  They are each candidates for Town Commissioner in the May 9th election on the Sires Team For WNY.

Parkinson was the youngest School Board Trustee in New Jersey history to be selected as President of their respective Board of Education, at age of 20.  Superintendent of Schools Clara Brito Herrera called her relationship with Parkinson “a collaboration,” with everything the Board and Administration achieved being “done for the students of the District.”

The evening also served as an awards night for the district’s teachers and employees.  Four students were also honored for their academic achievements during the past year.

With the school board election taking place next week, Parkinson and Diaz each had to relinquish their seats because they are candidates for a Town Commission seat on the ticket led by former Congressman Albio Sires.

Parkinson described last night as “bittersweet,” saying who could envision a local kid with a Cuban background, who graduated from Memorial High School, rising to the position of school board President?

He thanked the Trustees with whom he served for working for the children, saying West New York “has accomplished so much” during his tenure.
