Assemblyman John Allen (D – District 32) has announced that, in conjunction with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and Division of Consumer Affairs, he will be hosting an information session providing hands-on tips for senior citizens on how to avoid fraud and scams.  The session will be held on Monday, November 18 between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM at the Hoboken Multi-Service Center, located at 124 Grand Street.

The information session will cover common scams and frauds, including IRS phone scams, lottery frauds, and the grandparent scam, which are increasingly prevalent and target individuals in New Jersey through calls, emails, and other methods.

In a press release Assemblyman Allen stated, “As the prime target for fraudsters and imposters of all stripes, it is essential that we give our older residents the information they need to recognize when they are being scammed.  I’m proud to partner with the NJ Attorney General Office, Division of Consumer Affairs to educate seniors on the tactics scammers use and empower them with practical advice on avoiding these serious threats.”

Melanie Hazim, Director of Outreach, New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, added, “Scam artists are a sad reality in 2024, and their biggest target are our seniors. We are hoping to educate seniors across the state so they can be proactive rather than reactive to scams they may encounter whether that be through phone calls, online, etc. We look forward to informing the attendees how to be safe as well as savvy.”
Assemblyman Allen, who represents Hoboken and a portion of Jersey City, holds regular, mobile bimonthly office hours at the senior center in the Multi Service Center on the 3rd Monday of the month from 11 AM – 1 PM.
