Youngsters in the federally funded B.E.A.M. program visited West New York Town Hall this week. The program is comprised of more than 100 kids whose native language is not English. The field trip helps the kids to learn more about their new community.
All of the kids in the program have come to the United States within the past several years.

B.E.A.M. stands for “Bilingual Emergency Assistance Model.
The youngsters, in addition to meeting Mayor Albio Sires, were taken on a tour of Town Hall, visiting numerous departments, including Recreation. Some of the highlights of the tour were visiting the Police Department’s Communications Center and the jail cells.

The kids learned about the capabilities of police cars and fire trucks, as well as ambulances.
The entire field trip, according to Mayor Albio Sires, helps the youngsters pick up the English language on a faster pace than just classroom learning.
