Mayor Jimmy Davis has announced that Bayonne’s Buddy Baseball athletes will team up with other players to attempt breaking the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the Largest Game of Catch (baseball/softball). This challenge requires at least 973 pairs—1,946 participants—playing catch simultaneously for five minutes.

How It Works:

The official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ attempt is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, at Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair, New Jersey. Participants will be arranged in pairs, positioned three meters (9’ 10”) apart across the ballfield and concourse. The stadium honors the late Yogi Berra, a Baseball Hall of Fame star catcher for the New York Yankees, manager for both the Yankees and Mets, and a longtime Montclair resident.

Buddy Baseball athletes can play catch with a teammate or a Buddy, or opt to spectate.Pete Amadeo, Bayonne’s Superintendent of Recreation, said, “We are thrilled for our athletes to join this record-breaking event. It’s a special opportunity, and together, they’ll make history!”
