With spring comes baseball season and the residence of Bayonne are no stranger to America’s past time.
On Saturday May 7th, Bayonne celebrated the opening season of Buddy Baseball with a parade and an opening game.
Buddy Baseball is a league for special needs children. The ages range between 3 years and 21 years of age. The purpose of the league is to get children of special needs together to teach them about sportsmanship and also friendship. It’s a way for them to feel a sense of belonging and with all of the support from the city of Bayonne and Mayor Davis, the league is a great success.
Hundreds of Bayonne residence came out to support including Bayonne High school’s athletic teams. Mayor Davis threw the opening pitch to let the games begin. There was also a surprise unveiling of a new addition to the baseball field of baseball signs each with a professional team name.
There was a lot of dancing and laughs throughout the game and afterwards, everyone was able to enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs.
