In 2012 president Barak Obama named March 29th Vietnam War Veterans Day. This date was chosen because in 1973, it was the day the last of the troops were ordered home.
Bayonne, along with other Hudson County towns, decided to hold ceremonies in order to show the veterans of this war how much they are appreciated for their service.
The event was held at a Bayonne’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Dennis P. Collins Park, at the corner of 1st Street and Trask Avenue. The memorial shows the names of 30 Vietnam Veterans who lost their lives in the war.
“My father is on the memorial over there, so I’m very happy the people come out here and remember,” Michael Cruden told Hudson TV.
