BAYONNE, NJ – A local incident has led to the arrest of a 50-year-old Bayonne resident, Calogero Sanfilippo, on charges of theft. The event unfolded last Friday outside the ShopRite store in Bayonne.

According to Captain Eric Amato, the situation began when a woman in her sixties inadvertently left her purse on a bench near the store. Sanfilippo was reportedly seen taking the purse shortly after. The alarmed woman, upon realizing her purse was missing, immediately contacted the Bayonne Police Department.

Within a span of approximately 25 minutes, officers responded and managed to locate Sanfilippo walking eastward on East 25th Street. He was promptly placed under arrest, and the stolen purse was successfully recovered.

The Bayonne Police Department has since urged residents to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their belongings, especially in public places.
