Raymond Rouse (21) and India Schenck (22) of Bayonne NJ were taken into custody at 1645 hours from the area of West 20th Street. Officers responded to that location on a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they observed a male, later identified as Rouse, standing outside of a residence with an apparent arm injury. Officers then entered the building and responded to the apartment of the 32 year old male victim and the 30 year old female victim.
The victims reported that, while inside their apartment with their children, they heard a loud banging at their apartment door. The female victim responded to the door to ascertain who was there. Once she opened the door, she was met by Rouse who advised her that a GPS tracking program for his lost cell phone led him to that apartment where the phone was supposedly at. The female victim advised Rouse that no one in the apartment had the cell phone and closed the door. Several minutes later, the banging at the door continued. As the female victim responded back to the door with her personal cell phone in hand, she spoke to the female actor from behind the closed door. As she began to open the door, the female actor, later identified as Schenck, pushed open the door, forcing the victim backwards further into the kitchen as Schenck grabbed the victim by the hair. After a brief struggle, the victim was able to push Schenck out of the apartment and into the hallway. Once in hallway, Schenck gained possession of a dumbbell from the floor and struck the female victim on the back of her head with it. At this time, the male victim exited the bedroom to investigate the commotion. While doing so, he was punched in the face by Rouse, causing the male victim to fall to the floor and temporarily lose consciousness. Once he regained consciousness, he continued to be assaulted by Rouse as he attempted to stand up. It was at this time that the male victim gained possession of a kitchen knife and stabbed Rouse’s arm with it.
During the assault, Schenck had also gained possession of a broom in the hallway and struck the female victim with it. The actors then fled the apartment as the female victim utilized her daughter’s cell phone to call the police. Both Rouse and Schenck were located outside of the building and, after an on-scene investigation, were placed under arrest. At some point during the assault, the female victim’s cell phone was removed from the apartment or hallway area and was unable to be located. Rouse and both victims were treated at the Bayonne Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the altercation.
The young couple were charged as follows:
Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Schenck only)
