Union City Officials sent out the following statement on the passing of the Union City Security guard.
Shortly after 11:00 AM, a 58 year old female, identified as Maura Diaz, was found unconscious at the Union City High School. Union City Police and EMS responded and Ms. Diaz was pronounced deceased at the scene. The death is being deemed non-suspicious.
Ms. Diaz worked for the Union City Board of Education for over 20 years and, most recently, was working at the Union City High School as a security guard.
“The passing of Maura Diaz is a true tragedy,” said Mayor Brian P. Stack. “I have known Ms. Diaz and her family for over 20 years. She is a dear friend and I am deeply saddened to learn of her passing. Union City is a tight knit community and when one of us is in pain, we all feel it. As we enter a new school year, this is a jarring reminder to take care and comfort each other.”
“Maura Diaz was a wonderful employee and her absence will be felt by the Board of Education and the community. Our hearts are heavy today as we try to make sense of this loss,” said Superintendent Silvia Abbato. “Counselors will be available for any students or staff during this difficult time.”
