Video of Explosion: JCPD Bomb Squad Detonates Suspicious Package on 45th St & Broadway in Union City

Residents have reason to feel unsettled, as the Jersey City Bomb Squad detonated a suspicious package in Union City Saturday afternoon since they were unable to scan it for explosives.

Many said if it was not for Hudson TV’s coverage, they would not have even known exactly 
what happened.

A spokesperson for Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner confirmed the threat about 1 pm and said the Union City Police Department, Weehawken Police Department, Jersey City Bomb Squad and North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue were on the scene.

“I saw the bomb squad when I was on my way home,” Andrea Villa told Hudson TV on Facebook.

Mislay Rodriguez-Aracena says she heard a loud noise on 45th.

“Its right across the street from my house,” Elis Severino says. “Cops came and searched the area. We heard a big boom in front of 4535 Broadway, a building known as a 24/7 hangout for alcoholics and drug addicts. We need police surveillance in this area.”

NHRFR Chief Frank Montagne said they assisted UCPD in handling this incident as quickly and safely as possible to make sure residents were protected.

  14. Its right across the street from my house. Cops came and searched the area. We heard a big boom and it was over. Bomb was in front of 4535 broadway. A building which is known for drug addicts and alcoholics. They hang out there all day and night in front of the steps doing drugs and drinking. Here’s a few pics i got.

  50. I dont get it, what did they detonate? If its not a bomb? If its a bomb detonated shouldn’t there have been an explosion controlled or not? If it wasnt for this page I wouldn’t have heard about it and i live 5blocks away. Its not even on the tv news

  68. Why are they using the word “Detonate” ???? If it is not a bomb it is only a suspicious package… Stupid news!! that reads that they caused whatever it was to explode. To Detonate means to explode!! As far as I know nothing has exploded
