Correction: A previous version of this story said the Mayor had been arrested. That is incorrect. Paterson Mayor Joseph “Joey” Torres was among four city officials charged by state authorities Tuesday afternoon.

The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has reportedly been probing renovations made to Torres’ residence by township workers, but any investigation and charges may involve other matters. Attorney General Christopher Porrino is scheduled to hold a press conference at 4:00pm to address the charges.

Torres won reelection as Mayor in 2014 after losing a reelection bid for a third consecutive term in 2010. He first was elected mayor in 2002 after serving five terms on the Paterson city council.

In addition to Torres, three other city Department of Public Works supervisors face charges.
