Residents of apartments above a store at 4321 Bergenline Avenue, Union City, were evacuated by city police and North Hudson firefighters after a vehicle smashed into the front door area of the  building, Thursday morning.

According to officials at the scene, a young lady with a new drivers license was operating the vehicle that mounted the sidewalk, went between a light pole and the building and the front end crashed into the structure, near the front door entrance that leads to the apartments above the store.

There were no reported injuries.  The residents were paced into a city police van to keep warm until a building inspector could check the building’s stability.
