Charges Filed against Driver of Stolen Car in Police-Involved Shooting

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced today that charges have been filed against the driver of the stolen vehicle, who was shot by a Jersey City Police Officer on January 28, 2016 on Ocean and Virginia Avenues.

On January 29, 2016, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office charged Lamont Robinson, age 36, of Park Street in Jersey City with Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S. 2C:12-1b(1) (second degree); Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer in violation of N.J.S. 2C: 12-1b(5)(a) (third degree); Eluding in violation of N.J.S. 2C:29-2b (second degree); and Receiving Stolen Property (a motor vehicle) in violation of N.J.S. 2C:20-7a (third degree).

Robinson remains hospitalized in stable condition. Robinson does not currently have a first appearance in court due to his condition.

The shooting is being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, which is standard protocol for police-involved shootings.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6).
