Cliffside Park Woman and NY Man Charged after Toddler Ate Edible Marijuana

On Friday, December 25, 2020, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding a three year-old child who was taken by ambulance to Hackensack University Medical Center due to ingesting marijuana edibles and becoming lethargic and ultimately unresponsive. The investigation revealed that the edible marijuana was located in the residence of ENJOLI CAMACHO and brought to the residence by DARNELL JEFFERSON.

As a result of the investigation, on Friday, December 25, 2020, ENJOLI CAMACHO was arrested and charged with one count of Endangering The Welfare of a Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, a 2nd degree crime; and one count of Possession Of Narcotic Paraphernalia in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2, a disorderly persons offense. DARNELL JEFFERSON was arrested and charged with one count of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, a 3rd degree crime; and one count of Possession Of Narcotic Paraphernalia, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:36-2, a disorderly persons offense. They were both processed and released pending their first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.

The child remains in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the Cliffside Park Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
