The West New York Board of Commissioners on Wednesday night appointed Henry Codina as the new, Director of Public Safety. Codina, who had been the Assistant Public Safety Director since last summer, was sworn in by Mayor Albio Sires.
Codina takes over for Alejandro DeRojas, whose contract expired at the end of December. DeRojas retired as a Deputy Chief in September, 2023.

Codina, a retired Police Lieutenant, served 28 years on the force before his April, 2024 retirement. He is also a trustee on the West New York Board of Education.
