Today, Monday September 15, 2015, the turmoil that teachers have been facing over not having a contract has finally come to an end. Earlier this month, a five-year contract agreement was reached between union representatives and the Board of Education, but it wasn’t until today that it was voted on.
The spokesperson for the mayor, Jeff Meyer, told HCTV “Mayor Davis was happy to learn that the teachers union overwhelmingly supported the contract. As he said two weeks ago, we believe that this contract is the best deal for both teachers and taxpayers.”
This five-year contract covers the four years Bayonne teachers worked without a contract, as well as the 2014 through 2015 school year. They will still have to come up with a contract for the next academic year.
Mayor Davis had made it vocal that he was determined to get the teachers a contact. Hudson County TV will be following up with him tomorrow for more details about this vote.
