Hoboken Police arrested 36-year old Hugh McDonnell of Jersey City at 12:30 yesterday afternoon for driving while intoxicated and operating a white Toyota on a closed, public street.

According to Detective Lt. Danilo Cabrera, Sgt. Steven Kranz was working a traffic detail at a construction zone when he observed McDonnell drive onto a closed street.  The Toyota drove right past cones which were blocking the street to traffic.  The location was 6th and Jefferson Streets, with the street closed to southbound traffic.

Sgt. Kranz gave the driver both visual and verbal commands to stop the car.  Once McDonnell did, Sgt. Kranz believed he was intoxicated.  He was given a field sobriety test, which he failed.

McDonnell provided breath samples which showed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

He was given two summons, one for DWI, the other for driving on a closed street.
