Press Release

Phil Cohen today announced that he has filed 169 signatures — far more than the required number — with the County Clerk on Friday for his Hudson County District 5 Freeholder candidacy. Cohen said, ” I am excited to be off and running, speaking with voters in Hoboken and Jersey City about the need to hold the line on county taxes and bring cost-effectiveness to county government.”

Cohen, who is running in the Democratic Primary on the Democratic line with Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Sires, has received the endorsement of Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the Hudson County Democratic Organization Chairman and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto.

An attorney who serves as a Commissioner on the Hoboken Zoning Board of Adjustment, Phil Cohen has a long history of active involvement in local civic affairs. Cohen has served as a Vice Chair of the Hoboken Democratic Party and as a member of the Hoboken Planning Board.

He is the past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Stevens Cooperative School, a Member of the Board of Trustees of the United Synagogue of Hoboken, a recipient of the Corporate Leadership Award from the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation, and a recipient of the New York City Family Court Volunteer Attorney Program Pro Bono Service Award.
