JERSEY CITY, NJ – “At approximately 8:24 AM, Sheriff’s Officers came across a 1999 Dodge Caravan, on the sidewalk that had crashed into a building near Bergen Ave., and Storms Ave., in Jersey City.
The driver of the car, Wilfredo Lopez Padilla, 31 of Fairview, NJ, was disoriented and confused.
It was learned Lopez Padilla was traveling southbound on Bergen Ave., when his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic near Montgomery St., striking a livery cab, then jumping the curb and onto the sidewalk, hitting the wall of the Burger King at corner of Montgomery Ave., and Bergen Ave.
The vehicle then continued to travel down the sidewalk, scraping along the buildings, before getting wedged between and light pole at 742 Bergen Ave., H. Schoenberg Jewelers and just before Small World Academy Day Care Center.
Investigators believe that Mr. Lopez Padilla may have suffered a seizure and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for evaluation.
We are very lucky that no one was injured and no one was on the sidewalk at the time.
The driver was given a field sobriety test and was not believed to be impaired by alcohol. Lopez Padilla was also issued a summons for driving with a suspended license.”
