DWI checkpoints at Port Authority crossings this weekend

Lanes will be closed this weekend and/or next week at the George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Goethals Bridge and Holland Tunnel for ongoing construction and repair projects.

George Washington Bridge:

 

  • Beginning today, the westbound bus ramp out of the George Washington Bridge Bus Station, which was closed and under construction, is open. The eastbound ramp, which was bi-directional while the westbound ramp was under construction, will be returned to eastbound-only direction. All bus operations will return to their normal operations.

 

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, and from 10 p.m. Saturday, November 23, until 10 a.m. Sunday, November 24, the bus pickup and drop-off areas at the bridge’s eastbound bus slip will be closed. These closings are due to construction work being performed on the Center and Lemoine Avenue bridges.  Both Lemoine Avenue staircases that lead to the eastbound bus slip will be closed. The bus stop will be moved to the east sidewalk on Center Avenue (on the bridge) just north of Bruce Reynolds Boulevard. All passengers should board and disembark buses and jitneys in this area.

 

  • The bridge’s lower-level eastbound side will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, and from 10 p.m. Saturday, November 23, through 10 a.m. Sunday, November 24.

 

  • Two lanes on the westbound Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 8 a.m. Saturday, November 23.

 

  • One lane on the lower-level eastbound Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 8 a.m. Saturday, November 23.

 

  • Hudson Terrace will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, and from 10 p.m. Saturday, November 23, through 10 a.m. Sunday, November 24.

 

  • One of four lanes on the bridge’s upper-level westbound side will be closed from 8:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23.

 

  • Two lanes on the westbound Trans-Manhattan Expressway will be closed from 10 p.m. Saturday, November 23, through 8 a.m. Sunday, November 24.

 

Holland Tunnel:

 

  • One westbound lane in the tunnel will be closed during overnight hours from Sunday, November 24, through Tuesday, November 26, from 11:59 p.m. each night through 5:30 a.m. the following morning.  These closures are needed for ongoing tunnel repairs.

 

  • One eastbound lane in the tunnel will be closed during overnight hours from Sunday, November 24, through Tuesday, November 26, from 11 p.m. each night through 5 a.m. the following morning.  These closures are needed for ongoing tunnel repairs.

Lincoln Tunnel:

 

  • The tunnel’s South Tube (into New York) will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 9 a.m. Saturday, November 23, for roadway work. Traffic will be diverted to the Center Tube.

 

  • The tunnel’s South Tube (into New York) will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Saturday, November 23, through 9 a.m. Sunday, November 24, for roadway work. Traffic will be diverted to the Center Tube.

Goethals Bridge:

 

  • Two of the bridge’s three eastbound lanes will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 8 a.m. Saturday, November 23.

 

PAPD:

 

  • The Port Authority Police Department will post DWI checkpoints at agency crossings from 10 p.m. Friday, November 22, through 6 a.m. on Saturday, November 23. The purpose of the DWI checkpoint is to deter and apprehend anyone who operates a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Police also will distribute literature on the dangers of driving while intoxicated.

PATH:

 

  • PATH’s World Trade Center station will be closed this weekend, starting Saturday, November 23, at 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m. Monday, November 25, for regularly scheduled tunnel repair work. Service will terminate at Exchange Place, where ferry service will be available from 7 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. from the nearby Harborside Ferry Landing in Jersey City. Ferry service will also be available from the Brookfield Terminal in Lower Manhattan.
