Empowering Women: West New York Recognizes Women of the Year at Special Event

West New York’s International Women’s Day celebration was a night to remember as the town came together to honor its Women of the Year. The event, held at West New York Middle School, was a part of Women’s History Month and recognized four outstanding women who have made significant contributions to the community.

The honorees included Rita Mendez, co-owner of Miami Shoes, who received the Legacy Award for her contributions to education and business in West New York. Mendez, who has been a resident of West New York for many years, expressed her gratitude for the honor and the opportunity to continue serving the community.

Camille Boulla, owner of Petite B Bakery, was recognized with the Visionary Award for her role in bringing European-style pastries to West New York. Despite opening her bakery during the pandemic, Boulla’s business has thrived and become a beloved spot for locals.

Yanet Carpio, co-owner of Yanet’s Family Home Health Care Agency, was honored with the Community Award for her dedication to providing home health care services to residents. Carpio’s agency, which has a location in West New York, has employed hundreds of people and provided essential care to many in the community.

Lastly, Melissa Vergara, Memorial High School’s Valedictorian, was awarded the Rising Star Award for her academic achievements and plans to study biology at Yale University. Vergara, who has received multiple scholarships, is grateful for the opportunities ahead of her and hopes to pursue a career in medicine.

Overall, the International Women’s Day celebration was a beautiful tribute to the accomplishments and contributions of women in West New York.
