Enormous showing of support for O’Donnell family after tragic turnpike accident

Earlier today, the streets outside of Mt Carmel church in Bayonne were packed before the funeral for Hudson County Prep teacher Timothy O’Donnell, 48, and his daughter Bridget, 5.

They were killed on Monday afternoon after being rear-ended just west of the 14C toll plaza on the Hudson County Extension in Jersey City. Scott Hahn, 36, of Hamilton, has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of vehicular homicide.

“His family was a great family,” said Lillian Ruiz about her former softball coach. Mr. O’Donnell taught chemistry and physics at County Prep, as well as coached softball and was loved by all who knew him.

The community has rallied behind the family and showed support for O’Donnell’s wife, Pam, a cancer survivor, and 6-year-old daughter, Ali. Two separate fundraising pages have been set up to help this family with such a tragic loss, https://www.gofundme.com and https://www.youcaring.com. In addition, Jimmy Ds Blues Saloon in North Bergen will host a fundraiser on March 19, with performances by Hudson County Schools of Technology alumni.
