Fatal Fire in West New York: Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force Investigates

WEST NEW YORK – A devastating fire in West New York claimed the life of a resident in the early hours of Sunday, August 20, 2023. The fire, which has ignited a collaborative investigation led by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force, occurred in an apartment situated above 6213 Bergenline Avenue.

Just before the break of dawn at approximately 5 a.m., North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue were alerted about the blaze. Upon their immediate arrival, the team was met with thick smoke emanating from a bedroom within the apartment. In the midst of battling the flames and smoke, firefighters discovered an unresponsive man inside the said bedroom. The individual has been tentatively identified as Adrian Hernandez-Bienes, 55. Despite the team’s rapid response, Hernandez-Bienes was pronounced dead at the scene.

The apartment building witnessed two of its occupants managing to self-evacuate amidst the crisis, escaping potential harm.

While the fire’s origin has been traced to the apartment bedroom, the cause remains shrouded in mystery. As the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force dives deep into the investigation, they are being assisted by both the North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue and the West New York Police Department.
